About the Collection

Since at least the early 1940s, the Ballard Branch has collected works that reflect the neighborhood’s interest in small boats, ships and shipbuilding. With the expansion of collection resources and the 2005 relocation to a larger facility, the collection evolved into a focused resource supporting research on seafaring and fishing - both as industries, lifestyles and leisure activities.
