The Seattle Public Library’s spaces will light up in December with a silent reading party, a “White Christmas” Show Talk from the Fifth Avenue Theatre, a showcase of our very talented writers in residence and more.

The Library offers a range of other free events and workshops in December, including story times, Homework Help, a special “start a business” series in Spanish, and civic and community programs.
AUTHOR AND COMMUNITY EVENTS
- Holiday Harps @ Broadview Branch. From 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 2. Broadview Branch meeting room. All ages are welcome to join us for 10 harps playing all of your holiday favorites! Registration is not required.
- Show Talks with the Fifth Avenue Theatre: White Christmas. From 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 2. Join us for an entertaining discussion and demonstration on the history of tap dance and its use in The Fifth Avenue Theatre's production of Irving Berlin's "White Christmas," an American musical holiday classic that incorporates many forms of dance. Registration is not required.
- Silent Book Club at the Library. From 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 3. West Seattle Branch. Silent Book Club is a global community of readers and introverts, with more than 500 chapters in 50 countries around the world led by local volunteers. Enjoy gathering in person to read together in quiet camaraderie. Please feel free to bring a book or pick one from our collection. Registration is not required.
- Ladies Musical Club Concert. From noon to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 13. Central Library, Level 1 - Microsoft Auditorium. Join us for a Ladies Musical Club concert featuring piano solos by Mozart, Debussy, and other composers. Registration is not required.
- Writers’ Room Residency Showcase. From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 17. Central Library, Level 1 - Microsoft Auditorium. Several of this year’s Writers in Residence at will read brief selections of work they created while using the Eulalie and Carlo Scandiuzzi Writers' Room at the Central Library. Writers featured at this event include Amontaine Aurore, Kitty Caveat, Frances James Dinger, Diane Easley, Danielle Hayden, Greg Jensen, Matthew Kangas, Kelley J. Leigh, David Lewis, Arendse Lund, Rebecca F. Reuter, Morgan Richter and Miriam Tobin. Light refreshments will be served. The Writers’ Room, located on Level 9 of the Central Library, offers a space for writers to work on their projects and access Library resources. Registration is not required.
- Poetry Potluck @ Ballard Branch. From 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 20. Ballard Branch meeting room. Join an informal gathering to read aloud and listen to poems by writers throughout the world and across time. Registration is not required.
WRITING EVENTS AND BOOK CLUBS
- Virtual Writers Read. From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 10. Online. Join us for a monthly reading series with the African American Writers’ Alliance featuring an open mic and selected author readings from local writers. Registration is required.
- Low Vision Book Group @ Central Library. From 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 12. Central Library, Level 4 - Room 6. Join our Low Vision Book Group for a discussion of the book "The Enchanted April" by Elizabeth von Arnim. Registration is not required.
