The Seattle Public Library’s February arts and author events calendar include a silent reading event, an evening with Jennifer Finney Boylan about her new book “Cleavage,” and a new series of open hours for the ZAPP Zine Collection.

AUTHOR AND COMMUNITY EVENTS 

  • ZAPP Zine Collection Open Hours. Saturdays, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., through March 18. Central Library Level 7. Explore the ZAPP Zine Collection of over 30,000 zines, minicomics, and other small press periodicals. The ZAPP Zine Collection is one of the world's largest collections of zines made in Seattle and beyond. Registration is not required. 
  • Greenwood Branch "Libraries for All" 20th Anniversary Celebration. Saturday, Feb. 8, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Greenwood Branch Meeting Room. Celebrate the Greenwood Branch with hands-on activities, entertainment, and memories of the branch throughout the years. Event sponsors include The Seattle Public Library Foundation, Couth Buzzard, Phinney Books and Illumination Learning Studio. Registration is not required. 
  • Ladies Musical Club Concert. Wednesday, Feb. 12, from noon to 1 p.m. Central Library, Level 1 – Auditorium. Join us for a Ladies Musical Club concert featuring Brahms lieder and piano works by Liszt, Chopin and Debussy. Registration is not required. 
  • Silent Reading Night at Green Lake Branch. Wednesday, Feb. 12, from 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Green Lake Branch. Cozy up for a quiet winter evening of reading at the newly renovated Green Lake Branch. Registration is not required. 
  • T.J. Klune discusses "The Bones Beneath My Skin" with Seattle author Kim Fu. Tuesday, Feb. 4, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Central Library auditorium. In “The Bones Beneath my Skin,” bestselling fantasy author T.J. Klune (“The House of the Cerulean Sky”) has written a spine-tingling standalone novel, a supernatural road-trip thriller featuring an extraordinary young girl and her two unlikely protectors on the run from cultists and the government. This event is held in partnership with Charlie’s Queer Books. Registration is required. 
  • Jennifer Finney Boylan discusses "Cleavage: Men, Women, and the Space Between Us.” Wednesday, Feb. 19, from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Central Library, Level 1 – Microsoft Auditorium. In “Cleavage,” Boylan, bestselling author of "She’s Not There" and co-author of "Mad Honey" with Jodi Picoult. examines the divisions — as well as the common ground — between the genders, and reflects on her own experiences, both difficult and joyful, as a transgender American. In partnership with Elliott Bay Books. Registration is required. 
  • Omar El Akkad and Ijeoma Oluo discuss "One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This.” Thursday, Feb. 27, from 7 p.m. to 8:10 p.m. Central Library, Level 1 – Microsoft Auditorium. Award-winning writer Omar El Akkad discusses his new book, a powerful reckoning with what it means to live in a West that betrays its fundamental values. He will be in conversation with Ijeoma Oluo, bestselling author of “So You Want to Talk About Race” and “Be a Revolution.” Registration is required. 

WRITING EVENTS AND BOOK CLUBS 

  • Virtual Writers Read. Sunday, Feb. 9, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Online. Join us for a monthly reading series featuring an open mic and selected author readings from local writers. Registration is required. 
  • Writers Read. Sunday, Feb. 9, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Columbia Branch meeting room. Join us for a monthly reading series with the African American Writers’ Alliance featuring an open mic and selected author readings from local writers. Registration is required. 
  • El Club Latino. Sunday, Feb. 9, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Central Library Level 8 - Meeting Room. Únase al Club de Lectura de la Biblioteca Central.   • Low Vision Book Group. Tuesday, Feb. 11, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Central Library, Level 4 - Room 6. Join our Low Vision Book Group for a discussion of "Thunder Dog: The True Story of a Blind Man, His Guide Dog and the Triumph of Trust at Ground Zero" by Michael Hingson. Registration is not required. 
  • It's About Time Writers Reading Series. Thursday, Feb. 13, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Ballard Branch. Since 1990, this series has featured author readings and open mics on the second Thursday of every month. Registration is not required.
