A Midsummer Night's Dream
Ovid is widely considered to be Shakespeare's favorite author, and he drew much inspiration from the Metamorphoses. A noted example is the play within the play of A Midsummer Night's Dream, which parodies the story of Pyramus and Thisbe.

Mary Zimmerman won a Tony for Best Direction in 2002 for her theatrical adaptation of Metamorphoses, which was noted for its use of a pool of water as a central set piece. Seattle Rep staged a production of this play in 2000.
