Our Capitol Hill Branch houses over 1,500 books focused on the past, present, and future of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people.
This collection encompasses fiction and non-fiction, graphic novels and comics, literature, poetry and biographies on a global array of experiences and topics. While the material is primarily publications in English, some publications in other languages are available.
The collection is available to access during Capitol Hill Branch open hours and circulating materials may also be requested via library holds.

You can also explore our curated list of LGBTQ+ fiction and nonfiction, selected by our staff or search the LGBTQ+ History & Culture database, which includes approximately 1.5 million pages of information.
Capitol Hill Branch worked with Technical and Collection Services, and the Washington Center for the Book to develop the parameters for a collection that focused on LGBTQ+ subject matter and themes. The branch began building the collection with funding assistance from The Seattle Public Library Foundation in the early 2000s.
